Fabulous to see @loubakerartist’s new glow-in-the-dark wearable sculptures in action in Accrington! ⭐️ Lou says ‘TikTok-tastic! 🤩 I’ve loved seeing the very different ways that people have interacted with my new glowing, shapeshifting wearable sculptures over this past week! 🔥 This group of young women invited me to do a TikTok dance with them… They then came back on the second ENLIGHTEN night to do it again, this time with Victoria, who dressed up specially for ‘Glowing and Growing’ with neon cyberpunk dreads! 🤩 This was all part of Baker & Bliss’ Glowing and Growing in Accrington for ENLIGHTEN. It was fabulous to have a chance to invite visitors to wear my new sculptures in a much bigger glow-in-the-dark den, with very different audiences. We had over 2000 visitors and it was amazing to see so many living sculptures in action, grooving and moving, partly camouflaged within the space. Thank you, Jemima, Victoria and the TikTok dance gang. A new series of sculptures showing at @emergeinbath for the end of year showcase 2024. Some beautiful work on display at Sion Hill, Bath and a fabulous selection of workshops happening all week. Get booking! These sculptures are made from unfruitful plants found in my garden. Their delicate roots are sealed in plaster, immortalising them into ghost like tree forms. Reborn with new identities they appear both terrestrial and other worldly and reflect on the fragility of all living things.

This opens on 2 November 11-4 and on Saturdays and Sundays until 17 November. Another apple harvest has given me opportunity to cast piles of windfalls. The plaster moves around the fruit and fixes into the spaces between them in a circular form. The rotting pulp is teased out carefully by hand leaving an indexical shape. There’s no control over how these will turn out which I find exciting! And the smell in my studio of fermenting apples is fantastic. I wish I could keep it as another sensory experience to the piece. Come and see how this is installed at the exhibition and all the wonderful artworks by the Hatch artists.

Wow! Lou’s installing her red knitting as part of Vessel, an intriguing art trail featuring 7 artists in 7 rural churches near the Welsh borders. Lou says ‘Vertical, horizontal, draped, tensioned… and more! I’ve installed my red knitted sculptures in different ways and in different settings, sometimes in unexpected places and sometimes in more traditional art spaces. They are shape shifters, formless and unravelling. I can’t wait to see how these sculptures will respond to the chosen space within the awe-inspiring medieval Dore Abbey, a former Cistercian abbey at Abbey Dore in Herefordshire. Named ‘Life/Blood’ for this context, my installation will be part of @art_xianity’s ‘Vessel’, an art trail in remote rural churches near the Black Mountains between Usk and Hay-on-Wye. Curated by Jacquiline Creswell @visualartadvisor, seven artworks by seven artists are being shown in seven churches. The theme ‘vessel’ references bodies, boats, secretions and receptacles.
